For years Boiler Efficiencies struggled to keep pace with comparative Furnace Efficiencies. Although technology has long been around in Europe, they're finally being accepted by the American Consumer. Baseline Boiler Efficiencies are mandated to meet 80% AFUE; must be vented into a "Lined Chimney". The introduction of Condensing Boilers have proved to be a popular choice for the energy conscious consumer. At average 95% Efficient, these "condensing" boilers qualify for Federal Tax Credits and Rebates; financing rates are purposely lowered to entice selection. Higher Efficient Boilers are classified as "Condensing", they have lower chimney product temperatures that preclude them from venting to a traditional chimney. These furnaces reguire dedicated Plastic (PVC) Venting, or special venting that require them to be vented directly outside. "Condensing Boilers" are EnergyStar rated and qualify for any available Tax Credit and/ or Rebate. As can be expected, EnergyStar Rated Equipment may cost slightly more, but the rebates, tax credits, and lower financing interest rates coupled with the energy savings, make for an easy decision.
